PATHETIC WORKMANSHIP FROM STAR ALUMINIUM

I accepted quotation from Star Aluminium (based in Jacobs, Durban) for manufacture and fitment of heavy duty patio enclosure (Palace system), which cost nearly R43K. I accompanied the directors son to site in Uvongo for proper measurements to be taken and show him other units with similar system. The styling and colour has to be approved by the body corporate. A deposit of 50% was paid for commencement and the balance paid when they said job complete. I retained less than R3k. I inspected the premises (approximately 140 km from where I reside) and was disgusted with the workmanship. The upper panels were not aligned with lower panels. Sliding doors cannot be closed and locked by 1 person. Doors were touching at bottom and big gap on top. Deep scratches on 2 very big safety glass panes. Damages and silicone on bronze aluminium covered with spray paint. I was thereafter contacted several weeks later and informed all problems rectified and must settle the account. I was busy with a relatives funeral arragements at the time (death certificate available if required) and told him I have to inspect the workmanship which would be in 2 weeks time. The director sent his crew to site 3 days after speaking to me and removed 2 of the sliding doors and with no regards to the items left in the now open area. I was forced to pay the balance and an additional amount of R1500.00 for excess, and the doors were replaced. After a proper inspection was done and a few months past we noticed problems arising. The rubber strips which holds the glass to the frame was coming out on some panels. I inspected and noticed the glass is smaller than what it supposed to be. The rubber does not even touch the glass. Furthermore, the sliding doors on both sides still cannot be closed by 1 person. I took pictures and forwarded to them and received reply saying the rubbers need to be secured with silicone. I asked them to sort out because its still under warranty and nothing was done about it. I'm only complaining now after hearing about hellopeter.
