When 10% Coverage Meets 100% Disappointment - A Storm Damage Claim Nightmare
After experiencing significant storm damage to my property 11 weeks ago, I feel compelled to share my disappointment with Standard Bank Insurance's handling of my claim. When a substantial tree fell in my garden, it caused extensive damage - demolishing my boundary wall, completely destroying my neighbor's shed, and collapsing onto another neighbor's electric fence. What followed was an exercise in frustration that I believe others should be aware of before choosing this insurer. For three weeks, I attempted to navigate their claims process, repeatedly following up with their insurance department. I was informed that despite a R21 million IT expenditure, their insurance web portal remained dysfunctional. After weeks of waiting and persistent follow-ups with no resolution, I ultimately took matters into my own hands. I personally arranged and paid for tree removal specialists, electric fence repairs for both affected properties, and debris removal services for the demolished shed. Only after handling everything myself did I finally receive communication from Standard Bank Insurance. Their resolution? A settlement offer amounting to just 10% of the total damages incurred. This response demonstrates a concerning lack of service commitment and raises serious questions about their claims assessment process. As a customer who faithfully paid premiums expecting proper coverage during precisely these scenarios, this outcome is simply unacceptable. I share this experience not out of spite, but to provide potential customers with insight into what they might expect when filing a claim with Standard Bank Insurance. I would strongly advise considering alternative insurance providers who demonstrate greater responsiveness and fair claims settlement practices.
