Two and a half months and still waiting
If I could I would register zero stars. Standard Bank Insurance has to be the most uncaring, useless business in the private industry. I registered a claim for a burst water pipe in my ceiling on the 29th of March. The bank failed to send a plumber to fix the problem so I organized my own on day two. I couldn't do without water any longer. The bank was then supposed to arrange for assessors to determine water damage. A week after the assessors failed to arrive I volunteered to get my own carpenter to assess the damage. Standard Bank wasn't happy with the quote for wardrobe and bulkhead repairs and decided, after all, to send their own carpenter. Their carpenter offered a lower quote but refused to do the job. This clever carpenter could replace a 4-meter bulkhead with full electrical installation for R400 - IMAGINE! So I challenged the bank to let them do the job. I have spent hours on the phone running up my airtime and on email wasting my time. Unlike the Standard Bank employees, I don't get paid for sitting at my desk and doing nothing. I get paid for the time I work. This bank deducts R880 monthly for my insurance and still treats my problems with indifference and disdain. Since the geyser claim, I have had to pay for wind damage where my carport attaches to the wall. It was a clear claim that I didn't bother to register because the bank takes so long that the carport may have blown off and created further damage. Perhaps this is their strategy. Perhaps The bank pays employees bonuses for sidetracking and stalling claims until customers just give up. Either way, you'll have better luck getting service from a government or municipal department than you will from Standard Bank Insurance. For the record, my premiums have been paid regularly on the 25th for more than 21 years. My claims have also not been unreasonable. If you're thinking of getting insurance, there can't be an insurance company worse than Standard. It's hard to understand how they have stayed in business.
