TRYING EVERY TACTIC POSSIBLE TO AVOID PAYING OUT FOR BURST SOLAR GEYSER

My 250l solar geyser burst on Saturday 7 January – and I lodged a claim with Standard Bank Home Repairs the same day – emphasising that it was a SOLAR geyser.

On Sunday 8 January the plumber appointed by Standard Bank advised that he could only come on Monday 9 January. When they arrived – they informed me that they were not advised it was a solar geyser – and they don’t work on solar geysers!

Standard bank appointed a 2nd plumber who does work with solar geysers – and they advised that the geyser had burst and had to be replaced – but that they were not willing to quote for a replacement geyser because Standard Bank insurance insist on a 10 year warranty – and the only geysers which offer a 10 year warranty are WE geysers – which are shocking quality and the warranty is meaningless because WE repudiate any warranty claim even if the geyser bursts after 3 months. .......

I verified the information about WE geysers with 3 other plumbers – and then requested that I be paid out cash so I could replace the existing Kwikot solar geyser with another Kwikot solar geyser as they were recommended by all plumbers as the best geysers available.

I submitted 3 quotes to Standard Bank insurance on 17 January – and have followed up with 3 phone calls to the call centre – and each time I’ve been given a different story as to why I wasnt getting paid out.

Today I was told that a payout has been approved – of just over R13 000.00 – which is 60% of the cost of the cheapest quote submitted to Standard Bank Insurance!!!!!

This is totally contrary to the policy that should return me to the same situation I was in before the incident!

Besides appointing a plumber who didnt work on solar - they also delayed for days claiming that they were waiting for the plumbers report - despite the fact that I personally sent them a copy. They then said it took 24 hours to be scanned. Then the reason for the delay was that the report was sent to the wrong department. They have spent more than 2 weeks doing everything possible to avoid paying for the replacement of my burst solar geyser.

I have been paying insurance premiums to Standard Bank Insurance for 34 years - and this is how they treat me! I have been without hot water for more than 2 weeks - but Standard Bank insurance are only interested in trying to ***** me and make more profit for their shareholders.

Needless to say - I am cancelling my insurance policy with Standard Bank Insurance with immediate effect and will be lodging a complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman if I dont get paid out an amount that will purchase a replacement solar geyser and not just 60% of the cost.

In terms of my insurance policy I am to be returned to the original position I was in before the incident occurred.

I previously had a 250l kwikot solar geyser – which are no longer available. They only produce 200l or 300l solar geysers. According to several insurance brokers this means that I must be supp**** with a 300l geyser – the same way that the latest laptop would be provided to replace an model that is no longer available.

Standard Bank Insurance have done everything possible to delay settling this claim – and are now trying to pay out 60% of the cost of installing a replacement geyser – which I will not accept.

Unless I receive payment in full of the lowest quote provided I will lodge a complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman.
