Std Bank building and household content insurance let down
I have been a client Std Bank for years and have insurance cover from them for my house and household content. In the years that I have had these insurance products I have submitted 2 serious building insurance claims and 1 household content claim-all of which have been rejected. I am beginning to wonder if the cover of these policies are wholly insufficient or if it really comes down to the wording of their policies which they always seem to use against me, a paying client.
They diligently receive my monthly premiums on time, yet when I actually require the insurance to cover certain serious 'events', they somehow manage to find a reason to reject it. I had an expectation that I purchased protection for exactly those unexpected and stressful situations when something goes wrong. Yet when I have actually needed that protection, I have repeatedly found myself dealing with policy wording, exclusions and technicalities that seem to work against me rather than provide the support I believed I was paying for. At this point, I am seriously questioning the value of the cover I have been paying for.
Insurance is supposed to give you some peace of mind when something goes wrong. Instead, dealing with these claims has added considerably to my stress and mental load at already difficult times. When you have 4 full-time roles being a full-time employee, a mother, a wife and a household and administrative manager, the last thing you want added to your mental load is dealing with an insurance that is simply working against you from the get-go. What has disappointed me most is the feeling of being let down after years of paying premiums faithfully. I understand that insurance policies have terms and exclusions but when its legitimate and/or serious claims that are being rejected, it becomes difficult to have confidence in the product you are paying for.
I am considering whether these insurance products provide the level of protection and support I need and will be looking at alternative insurers. After being a paying customer for years, I expect insurance to make difficult situations easier - not add another layer of disappointment and stress.
