Standard Bank Vehicle Insurance

Hello, and my name is Enock. I'm yet drained as I'm writting this review. Here's the story. I have recently purchad a brand new vehicle from a reputable car dealership of which I will not mention financed through standard bank. I had taken their car insurance as I'm one of their own customers. I've been with Standard bank for a while now, my home-bond is with them, home contents, house insurance and funeral covers etc... I have everything with them, it made sense to take their car insurance too. This is to prove how much I have faith in this bank. I bought my vehicle in April and immidiately their financial deal came with their insurance package, great...this is wonderful, it was even afforable. I had went back home for the weekend to showcase the new vehicle, everything went well and came back to my residential. On the Monday coming from the weekend of which the car had been purchased, I unfortunately I had a car accident driving to my home, meaning the vehicle was literaly 5 days old. Fortunately I was alone and nobody had got injured. Called the Medics, they checked and I was ok just a bit shaken. The cops came by and made sure everything is ok and had left. no issues, no fuss. My car was towed and it went. Following day, normal claiming procedure and my claim was captured. Necessary assessment were done and it was then decided that the vehicle is a write-off, okay no issues meaning I will get full cover because package is a full comprehencive cover... everything went well as I was hoping for and soon enough I'll be called back with my claim being approved. Little did I know what mess I got myself into. During their verification process, I was notified that I will be contacted to provide further more personal documentation and information, should they believe there's more to my claim and if I'm not lying with the full story... "Ok, no issues what are those personal docs in questioned?", I asked? And it was explained to me that for them to do a thorough investigation they will need my following docs. "Bank Statements", "Beacon and Bills document", "car tracker log" and "My Phone Logs". This became a total shock to me. And the assessor had told me previously as he conducts the claim, "Should standard bank think or believe you're lying to them, they will ask for these documents but normally it doesn't even get to this point if it's a simple case". And I was shocked as for what could I Iie about, I was not under-the-influence, its during the week, yes it might be late aound 9pm but still.... The Medics and cops can confirm I was sober, even the SOS lady could hear I'm not intoxicated, I was abit dizzy and confuced as the airbag deployed in my face, but other then that I'M 100% OK. Weeks went by after I've given them what they requested. On the list of documents they've requested, I was only able to provide them with two docs, "bank statements", and my "Call log". The "Beacon and Bills" doc I could not provide as the cell phone network I'm using does not have the systems that provides such information, infact, they said even if they did, they are not oblidged to give out such personal information to anyone even to myself. The "Car tracker" was supposed to be installed the following week on wednesday but unfortunately the accident had happened 2 days before that. So they are left to put more investigational work into the claiming process via the assessor. Two weeks into the investigation, the assessor sadly passes on due to a heart attack. Now the case goes back to their head-office to be assigned to a new assessor, this is now 2months, pending claim. The second assessor while investigating he gets admitted in hospital due to COVID-19 and while he's there he gets intestine-infection due to a colon irruption in his stomache. I felt like the devil is walking with me and hes ruining everything for me. Right, the assossor get better on month 3 and was able to continue with the claim. Later in Month 3 he contacts me and explains the he had done his investigation and hopes standard bank can pull through because his findings were conjucive and there's nothing strange he had found, therefore there's no questions for him further. Month 4 passes by no feedback. Month 5 towards the end, I receive a call from standard bank to notify me that they had done reseach on my profile and it turns out I had an accident in 2015 and I was cancelled by that insurance therefore, they are going to deny my claim because this was not disclosed with them on the day I took insurance. I felt like was going insane!! I told that lady that I was asked- if I had an accident in the last past 3 years and I did confirm that in 2019 I was in an accident with my previous vehicle and my than insurance approved paid out. I asked her- if she could agree on this and she said yes, she agrees but "Why didn't I disclose the one happened in 2015?" I told her that was irrelivent to me because you had explicidly asked in last past 3 years, and I was frank. So she continue to say "therefore Standard Bank will not be held accountable for anything that has to do with the vehicle and I'll have to see what can I do on my side"... btw she was very rude, from day one! I'll never forget her name(Thandi Ligojolo) I even told her the same thing. I added again "When typing my ID in your systems, your systems shows everything about me and my past history of insurances, why did you take me on irregardless? that's the risk you as standard bank took with me but you continued anyway" and I was told "yes we were aware of that but we're taking your word for it" therefore even if one can have 100s of accidents or be of a very High Risk, Standard Bank will still consider your application and wait till you claim. I requested for the recording where they ask "if I was in accident in past 5 years", they told me, they've mentioned during the call that they explicidly asked for 5 years and not 3. I said ok, send me the recording. And suddenly they had a techinical issue and the recording is not made available but they will try to make provision of it. till today I have not received any recording. Standard Bank you're anything but useful. Everything you've done from the investigation to the execution of the claim you've shown me your lack of personal intrest and lack of communication, you're unrelaible ******, that would do anything and go extra lengths not to give what's due. I would have understood if I was perhaps drank or the cameras caught me speeding. That's anderstandable! For you to deny something that has nothing to do with you, you're simply fighting other companies battles because you're useless enough standing on your own. I feel very bad I had to cut all ties with standard bank, because I had lost alot of great relationships, from my personal banker to my financial advisor, very good people but they are working for ******! I'm very disappointed how they handled things with me, I had to wait for the whole 5months just to be told that they will not be covered because of something that had happend 6 years ago, not even 5! And the 2015 accident, I was not the driver but the vehicle was mine. But anyway this how Standard Bank Vehicle Insurance deal with claims when they have a no way out. They chant on other companies findings and use it as their own just to say they have won! In some cases I wonder if it even got to their head-offices or was it a personal issue Thandi had with me because I don't think as Management I will gladly take someone else business and make mine. But anything it's possible this is South Africa afterall.
