Standard Bank - Making you Bleed in Times of Need
Logged a claim in April after the KZN floods. Contractor was appointed in May and authorized to repair by June. Contractor insisted that I had to pay the access first to be in the queue. Since my house was perched on the edge of an embankment with serious damage, I immediately made the payment out of desperation and sent the proof of payment along with photographic evidence of the collapsing structure. With the repair date set for 5 July I hung on, having restless, sleepless nights and being woken by any site of heavy rain, wind or loud noises, praying that the damage did not progress. July 5 passed and after taking into consideration the safety of my family's lives, I took out a bank loan to initiate the repairs myself. I am now R100 000 in debt and have to consider taking a further home loan advance to continue with repairs as I cannot wait on broken promises and unanswered telephones calls. The mold on the ceilings and the clothing closets has turned black causing increased doctors visits for the entire family and damage to clothing worth over R20 000 so far. If this is not the worse insurance, really, what else can be?
So far Standard Bank insurance has failed me in receiving any assistance to my claim and not kept to their commitments.
