Standard Bank Insurance won't repair bad workmanship done by their own contractors
I had a claim for hail damage in January 2016. I registered the claim with Standard Bank Insurance. They sent various contractors out to fix damage caused by the hail. The contractor who came to fix the roof had to be called back repeatedly for 6 months to repair shoddy workmanship. Finally in June 2016 I changed insurance companies. There were no major rainstorms, but in January 2017 we had a heavy downpour and we had leaks where we had leaks the previous year. I contacted my current insurer who sent out an assessor. He took one look at the roof and said that the work done on the roof by Standard Bank Insurance's contractor was shocking and of the worst quality he had ever seen. The entire section of roof where the "repairs" were made, had patches showing a colour of paint that the roof had in the 1980's, so at least 5 coats of paint that had been removed by the hail and yet the contractor couldn't put enough waterproofing and paint on to cover these patches. Anyhow, Standard Bank Insurance wouldn't even take my calls when I called the to tell them to come and fix their bad work. I then reported the matter to the ombudsman. Even worse experience!! Standard Bank Insurance blatantly **** to the ombudsman, the ombudsman didn't contact me for clarification, so I am now left with the option to take Standard Bank Insurance to court to force them to fix work that their contractor did so badly. Standard Bank Insurance caused me further expense because my roof is now un-insurable. Standard Bank Insurance will take your money but not honour their responsibilities or duties.
