I recently logged an insurance claim for a leaking pipe under my paving on my property (19/065298). Your assigned plumbing team came out the same evening to assess and repair the damage. In doing so he dug up my paving to get to the source of the leak. He found the first leak and while repairing the leak discovered an additional leak, due to it being identified as an additional leak he advised me to speak to the claims department. After many phone calls the claims department sent the plumber back to my property and on further investigation it was discovered that the cause of the leak was as a result of the plumber pulling on the pipe while repairing the initial leak dislodging the pipe from another. connection. The pipe has since been fixed but I now have been left with a gaping hole in my paving and was advised by the plumbing company to call the claims department again. Upon calling the department I was advised that the paving that was dug up was resultant damage and that I had to pay an additional access amount to have this repaired.

My grievance with this outcome is "resultant damage", is classified as follows. If a tree in your yard were to fall on your home and damage it (primary damage) and in this process break a water pipe causing your home to be flooded (resultant damage) and damage other equipment. In my scenario the primary damage was the leaking pipe (no human intervention) the resultant damage was as a result of remediating the primary damage (human intervention) thus the resultant damage would be deemed to be part of the remedial work. If the paving had collapsed as a result of the leaking pupe this would be deemed as resultant damage.

After having paid R750 for a leaking pipe which could have been repaired for margionally less, I now have to fork out an additional amount of money R500 to have my home restored to a point prior to the leak. I implore you to reconsider your decision to repair my paving.
