STANDARD BANK INSURANCE LIMITED CLAIM REJECTION AND FAILURE TO GIVE PROPER FEEDBACK AND ADVISE
Greetings
I am a client of Standard Bank Building Insurance limited.
I Lodged a claim last year ( 2023 September 13) on the Insurance policy number HLB*** , with a claim number -23/074346 and the consultant who was responsible is Mrs Makadi .
The Standard Bank Insurance limited treated me so bad that they even went as far as make threats on their rejection letter stating that I should repair the damages to my house or they will be no future claims that will be approved.
The shocking fact of their claim rejection are as follows:
According to their Stractural Engineering Report Compiled by Mr G Nkhwashu from MEM Consultant I should have installed the gutters to the insured property, of which when the policy was taken the house didn't have the gutters and was covered.
Secondly the standard bank insurance limited and the Engineer( Mr G Nkhwashu)Findings was that the house was previously repaired , of which that was a total lie which can be proven since the area quoted on the report was built like that and not only my house has such but 99% of the houses if not all of the houses in the neighborhood. This can be proven by a side visit to inspection neighboring houses even from a distance .
Third reason was that ceilings and walls were previously repaired, which is a shocking findings from someone who claims to be an expert( Structural Engineer Mr G Nkhwashu) since the area stated was only repaired after a claim was Lodged with the Standard Bank Insurance limited but due to delay from their side to send a service providers to do an investigation; I took it upon myself to close the areas that were damaged to prevent dust from entering in the house and also limit the invasion of Geckos into our space since the opening from the ceiling and cracks from the walls were so big , and this was discussed with their Consultants Mrs Makadi that I will undergo such since the bank is taking time to attend to the claim.
It should also be brought to light that even a Consultants from Standard was told about the same concerns during her visit to my house . It is very shocking that an entire expert used the DIY job which was undertaken as precautions to prevent dust and Geckos the used it as a previously repaired damage to the rejected claim.
The explanation given by Standard Bank Insurance limited and their Stractural Engineer that my house had wear and tear is questionable since my house is well maintained and this can be seen even from a distance by any person walking by.
It is clear from their rejection letter that Standard Bank Insurance limited was not intending to approve the claim since they even went as far as making threats, of the damage been repaired by myself but yet they also quoted work of a poor quality that was done by the developers on the foundation but yet expert me as a client to carry liabilities for such .
The Standard Bank Insurance limited went as far as delaying the process and thereafter sending their team to investigate ,and left my house in more damages than before , this can be proven since their Consultants visited my house and took previous picture of the damage before they came to digg on my house foundations during their investigation and cost the additional damages which in turn the insurance expect me to repair them.
At first the Standard Bank Insurance refused to submit the already compiled report from the engineer which I was only asking in order to repair the house myself but they had to be forced by the OMBUDSMAN to submit such report.
The information and rejection of the claim are not direct and Standard Bank Insurance limited knew that I was not going to afford to challenge their rejection hence why they were even making threats on their rejection when I appealed with them.
It is clear from all the reasons stated by the Standard Bank Insurance limited and that of an Engineer send by Standard Bank Insurance limited that this was done purposefully so even after so many years of paying my insurance policy premiums ( since 2012).
If according to the Engineers ( Mr G Nkhwashu from MEM Consultants) report, the foundation was done on a collapsible soil and not in compliant with the Building Regulations by the Developer , why must I be the one who carry the responsibility to repair the house?
Their rejection is vague and it can be drawn from that , as to if the Expert( Structural Engineer) saw that the DIY job which was also explained to him during his visit can be use as an excuse to reject the claim then their professionalism must also be questioned?
The decision taken by Standard Bank Insurance limited not only did it frustrate me but also cost a burden and strain to my family since I can even try to repair the damages and worried that if this has to be taken further evidence in relation to this might be contaminated and as result had to stay in a broken and damaged structures with my family, of which their lives are also be in danger since we don't even know what will happen next.
Your inspection during the assessment of the house transfers and purchased should have been a point of departure in dealing with certain things instead you went as far as getting people to frustrate me rather than assisting.
