Standard Bank Insurance delays leaving lupus suffering in nauseating and unhygenic conditions

On Friday 7 February 2020, the West Rand experienced flash floods, which caused a sewerage drain on the outside of my mothers property to flood into their house. They were walking on carpets ankle-deep in human excrement essentially. They registered a buildings claim with Standard Bank Insurance, their bond insurance. The assessor was appointed and attended, and submitted his report on 12 February 2020. On Thursday 13 February 2020, my mother was contacted by the service provider, who indicated that she would be coming out with samples of carpeting that day, however up until today 19 February 2020, Mpho has still not been to the property.

In the meantime, we have contacted Standard Bank Insurance and confirmed dates and times of when the claim was approved, the approved amount, whether she could be paid out if they opted to install laminated flooring or tiles or not etc. My mother informed the consultant of the delay in the service provider attending with samples, and informed the consultant of her ire, and unhappiness, as her health and her husbands health had declined due to the unhygienic conditions they were living in. The consultant was less than interested in her situation and just confirmed that she would have the service provider contact her. She asked my mother to rate her service, my mother informed her she would be submitting a complaint, and the resulting attitude was nonchalance.

So it would seem that Standard Bank Insurance is less than concerned that a 63 year old man and a 59 year old woman with an immuno-disease are living in disgusting conditions for almost two weeks.

I contacted the service provider this afternoon, surprise, surprise, the person dealing with the claim is not available. I informed the messenger of the situation, and also informed her that the samples had better be at my mothers place with by COB today, or I would ensure that they book themselves into a guest house and forward them the bill. Or perhaps Standard Bank Insurance will see fit to cover it, seeing as in the end, the premium is being paid to them every month?
