Refusal to payout home loan by Standard bank insurers

My mother passed on 2017 and we currently discovered that she had insured our home with standard bank we approached standard bank to inform them of her passing they said we should have claimed for home insurance within 3 months of her death and they refuse to settle the home loan and payout the insured amount meanwhile there are bank statement to show they have been deducting insurance premium
