Non Response from Standard Bank Insurance

22 January 2025 we had severe storms in the Durban area resulting in damage to my property. I lodged a claim 23/1/2025. An assessor visited, Standard Bank sent out 2 contractors to assess the scope of work. Almost 3 weeks later a structural engineer was sent out. After lots of 2 and fro with the call centre, 34 days later I was contacted by my claims handler. before then she was unreachable. I was offered R28k payment without the option of Standard Bank appointing a service provider. I asked for a breakdown of payment to establish how the they reached this figure and why they won't appoint a service provider, shockingly this was not immediately available. Bare in mind no contractor took measurements, just pictures. eventually I was given a breakdown and learned that it was the recommendation of the engineer to rather pay than appoint a service provider. The engineer visited 3 weeks later, in the that time I had to temporary stabilise my home to prevent collapse. during this time I kept the call centre informed that I had to carry out the temporary measures as I was getting no response from Standard Bank. The engineer based his report and findings on the temporary structure and didn't consider the initial pictures provided by the visiting contractors or my calls to the call centre. they completely missed out glaring structural damage on the report and rather commented on arbitrary objects. I queried the flawed report and was then offered R47k. I again asked for a breakdown of cost and why Standard Bank is not appointing a contractor as I can never do the corrections for R47k. There has been 3 rain storms and my home has been flooded a further 3 times due tot he damaged roof and still absolutely no response from Standard Bank. It seems as though they don't have the capacity tor competency o handle these claims or just don't care. I was directed to Standard Bank Complaints, 51 days later I contact the complaints call centre to enquire about the non response, shockingly I was told if didn't get a response I should contact Hello Peter or the Ombudsman. After my temporary paralysis from shock I asked for a managers details instead. I contacted a manger who responded promptly promising feedback within the day, needless to say that didn't happen and here we are. Standard Bank insurance has left me stranded when I needed them most, as I write this review my region is scheduled for a Orange Level 6 storm.
