Multiple excesses on 1 claim

I sent an email last week, querying and desputing the excesses I was charged regarding a claim I submitted.

I had a burst pipe, which caused a damage to my ceiling. According to my understanding, this is resultant damage and the highest excess should apply.

In this case however, I was charged R1250 for the burst pipe. And another R500 for the damage to the ceiling. I don't understand the concept behind these excesses.

I feel it is unfair and unnecessary considering that this is just one claim.

Please advise accordingly.
