If you're thinking of taking Standard Bank Insurance - DON'T
Standard Bank Insurance (SBIB) is by far the worst insurance broker in South Africa. The service is appalling and their employees are not concerned about assisting the customer. Lets start with the call centre; there's a potential of being on hold for up to 30mins before reaching the first agent. Once you have gone through, the agent can easily hang up the call without warning. Then there is the claims department; those people treat you like they're doing you a favour, like there isn't premium (a large sum I must add) that comes out of your bank account every month without fail. Now let me bring it down to my recent experience; I logged a claim after my car accident that occurred on the last week of May. My car was towed to their preferred repairer the day after they processed the claim. A week later my claim was authorised and the repairer was given the go ahead. This repairer (Alberante Repair Centre) decided to drag their feet when having to disclose additional damages which were found after the first quote was issued to the insurance. It took them 3 weeks to draft and send the report. SBIB received the report and they have been sitting on it for 2 weeks with no indication of whether they approve or decline. Between SBIB and Alberante, there has been a pointing of fingers with no party taking accountability of the delays. Meanwhile I'm still being debited the full insurance premium for a car I am not driving. A car that is sitting pretty at Alberante, stripped and not a single thing repaired. All because SBIB and their PREFERRED repairer are dragging their feet and do not care about their customers. Do yourself a huge favour and do not take Standard Bank Insurance. I regret it and so will you.
