I can heartily endorse Standard Bank for your home insurance if ... ha ha

I can heartily endorse Standard Bank for your home insurance - if you already have a spare dwelling on hand, are lonely enough to want to chat to call centre peeps a few times a day ... and basically have no intention of ever suffering an electrical fault or other mishap that (god forbid) necessitates putting in a claim. Because they are really good at securing new business (just Google and see what comes up first) but are truly useless - actually deliberately evasive, lethargic and ghosty - if, for the very FIRST and ONLY time in your 20-year stint as a homeowner there is a storm that messes up the wiring in your roof. Because then you're on your own (although not, because you keep vainly believing that just one more call will set in motion whatever is needed to restore electricity to your rotting freezer after two weeks). But from bitter experience - I say as write this in the dark with a rocketing data bill - it's probably better to lose hope upfront. And also just stay away from Standard Bank Insurance. Consider yourselves warned.

Nope ... no sign of anyone contacting me - not even the "team leader" who was supposed to call me yesterday. Other insurance companies prioritise service and systems: your business model relies on claim attrition (ghosting your customers until they just give up and pay to fix whatever it is themselves). Keeps the business cash-positive and helps you avoid being hauled before the Ombud. Score! :)

Cute. You must be a bot - or you would have apologised for THE frustration and inconvenience, not "any" (do you think the jury is still out on that one?).

That said: it is interesting to see what it takes to get the SB sloth-bot to rouse itself, slowly and almost imperceptibly, from its zombie-like stupor. Just enough to auto-spit a random pacifying message to make it less obvious that you are running a massive (possibly laundering?) **** that involves raking in the cash and not providing anything in return, ever, and not under any circumstances. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzilch

Too useless to even react to a HelloPeter complaint
Q: What happens when the scale of SBI's ******** incompetence eventually forces you to turn to Hello Peter?
A: Nothing. Zilch. (The SBI bot will pop up here and make some glib noises about escalating your blah blah - basically telling you that they are now going to do something that they should have done a week ago (AND have previously claimed they had already done).

So we can add dishonesty, cynicism and generalised contempt to the list of corporate values.
