Great to say you are insured but not so great when you have to claim and you realize the exclusion list is longer than what you're actually insured for.

We tried calling to submit a claim about a month ago. The ceiling in one of the rooms started to drop down from the roof. After many calls and waiting we got through. Somehow whilst being transferred to another agent the call dropped. Eventually I tried submitting the claim online as well as emailing the SIL and HOC.

They advised someone would come out to assess the issue. By this time the ceiling had completely collapsed and broke off leaving the roof exposed. The claim was rejected due to "bad workmanship", a defect that was existing prior to when we purchased the property.

After looking through the policy you are pretty much insured for nothing. It's like they've reviewed what the most common claims are over the years and found a way to not be liable.

Apparently we were responsible for making sure that the ceiling was installed up to code. I don't have infrared vision so not sure how this could have been done as we did not build the house! The wind is now blowing through the roof and into the room. It's winter so that's fun. My daughter can't sleep in her room. Moisture is seeping through and as a result down to the cupboard and clothes are damp. It's so great being insured, paying your bond every month without fail for the last 7 years, even putting a lump sum on it to repay it faster. Thinking hey, we insured.....but then not really because exclusions are basically everything. Fed up, no heart or sympathy for clients.
