Formal Complaint Regarding Rejected Claim by Standard Bank Insurance

My experience with Standard Bank Insurance has been a horrific one. Firstly, the staff members in that particular department are very unprofessional and ***********. I was assisted by lady named Guguethu Mtshali from the Insurance Complaints Specialist. she is completely ******** and *********** sending me from pillar to post regarding my matter.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the handling of my recent insurance claim, which was summarily rejected by Standard Bank Insurance. Your acknowledgment of my initial complaint was appreciated; however, the subsequent actions and responses have left me deeply frustrated and distressed.

On May 1st, 2024, I reported a water leak damage issue on my roof slab to your insurance department. I was assured that a service provider specialising in plumbing, Ntebu Pele Projects and Contractors, would promptly assess the situation at my residence. However, the experience I encountered with their representatives was wholly inadequate and concerning.

Upon their arrival at my residence between 10:30 and 11:00 am, the service personnel conducted a cursory inspection, primarily focusing on superficial observations and capturing minimal photographic evidence. They failed to utilise appropriate leak detection equipment or perform comprehensive assessments of potential sources, such as the roof slab or bathroom walls. Their swift, uninformed conclusion that the damage stemmed from a waste pipe leakage was not only premature but lacked substantiated evidence.

Subsequently, I was notified by the Standard Bank insurance department that my claim was rejected on the basis that the damage was attributed to a waste pipe issue, which supposedly falls outside the scope of my coverage. This decision was made without due diligence or consideration for the complexities of the situation. Despite my repeated attempts to engage with your department, the initial response was dismissive, offering neither a leak detector nor an insurance assessor to conduct a thorough investigation.

I sought to find a service provider who specialists in leak detection as I was not going to live in a water damaged residence. Their findings contradicted the premature assessment made by Ntebu Pele Projects and Contractors, confirming through professional analysis that the issue indeed pertained to a pipe leak. The delay and lack of proactive measures on your part exacerbated the extent of the damage within my property, which I find entirely unacceptable.

Moreover, the timeline provided in your email response, indicating an 8-working-day period for resolution, is wholly inadequate given the urgency and severity of the matter at hand. As a paying client, I expect and demand a level of service that aligns with the premiums I contribute. The inefficiency and negligence demonstrated in this instance reflect poorly on your organisation and undermine the trust and confidence I once had in your services.

In light of these circumstances, I am left with no recourse but to escalate this matter to the Insurance Ombudsman, Hello Peter, and various social media platforms to ensure that my grievances are heard and addressed. Furthermore, please be advised that I intend to terminate my policy should this matter not be resolved, as the level of service and support provided falls far short of acceptable standards. I implore you to take immediate and decisive action to rectify this situation and provide the redress and compensation owed for the damages incurred.

I await your urgent response and swift resolution to this matter.

Yours sincerely, Basetsana Moeng
