Fire damage home resolution
All i need is Updates on assessment done and findings by your team. On the 16th of December 2025, I was woken up by noise and a huge blaze of fire from an apartment under mine. I thought this was my worst nightmare but Standard Bank and their team at CLA & Associates will give me a run for all my troubles. SIL139202BC/49 The Body corporate seems to have logged the claim next day, as the fire went on for a while in the night to morning of the 17th of December 2025. I watered receiving calls same week as my windows had shattered from the fire, geyser damaged and the property itself full of cracks everywhere that needed assessing and some, immediate repairs. We crashed at a friend's house whilst I tried finding out the standing and assistance from insurance, through the 3 men who called (1st from standard bank had handed over to broker 1, then broker 2 )who are the ones I try to get information from. I was alerted alternative accommodation will be covered, but by the end of the week there was still nothing, and the message; most companies are closing off......struggling with accommodation we traveled home to venda, leaving keys with care taker incase access is needed. When I was gone there was two visits that week, still to bring in Structural Engineer I'm told to finalise the investigation. Fast forward to after Christmas, I'm told I will need to remove my belongings for thorough assessment, which I fully understood, so I arranged to come back, book a bnb, rent a truck and then buy storage to move my stuff and I alert the brokers. The next time I call because they are quiet and I'm told they have to wait for the deceaseds' families to remove their belongings in unit below me to proceed. How are these two properties now merged in this assessment? I am eventually told and i follow up that lodging will be covered from Jan 1 to Feb 28, and I must provide a valuation for my property, struggled with that till Jan 2026 and sent the information to the brokers. Eventually payment is made after another back and forth and no updates now from insurance to body cooperate and then to myself at the end of January 2026. Back to the house, on the 16th of Jan, I drove there to find some ceiling removed and supporting beams placed in three spots, I figure, there is movement. So icheck again with brokers, who say the next week there will be more assessment and contractors brought in, another week and I'm told as I follow up, they have requested for house plans. Another week and I ask but get no response until 4 days into it I'm called at the gate that there is contractors and I must open for them, I check to confirm that they did indeed call caretaker to arrange access, and they say they did so I open. It's a day after this that I receive a message that "work will start next week and will take about 7 weeks" I asked, what is the "works" is the assessment report going to be shared with me or the finance house, FNB? I'm still waiting for a response. Is it a lot to ask to see what the findings where? How deep the cracks i am seeing on the floor slab and walls in my apartment are and how they plan to fix them. How is the Structural integrity of this building after the fire and the cracks that are visible to the naked eye? What are the findings, what's the proposed remedial work from all done? I cannot even afford getting exhausted from following up but its draining!
