My wife and I have a Homeowners Policy with Standard Bank Insurance since March 2013 and recently received a New Policy Summary.

Yesterday reading the New Summary I noticed that on the Policy under Construction it was stated that our roof is Tile/Metal Clad Roof, Sum Insured R10 100 000 Outbuilding is stated as Thatch, Sum Insured R75 000.

Although Standard Bank Approved a Bond for the Loan Amount, they required an inspection been done by one of Their Employees, who visited our Home twice, where after they provided us with a list of repairs before inception of the Insurance, which were carried out.

Because our Home is mainly Thatch their Representative told us that the Insurance on our House is expensive due to the fact that it is a Thatch Roof.

What they then did on the Policy is change the Construction on our Policy, the Home Construction should be Thatch and Not Tile/Metal Clad, Sum Insured R10 100 000 and Outbuildings should be Metal Clad, Sum Insured R75 000.

Thus yesterday listening to some Bull**** from a machine for almost 30 minutes I eventually were connected to a Lady Norma in their offices, I explained the situation, she then told me more Bull**** that they issued the policy like that so that it can cover a swimming pool, carport and outbuildings.

I requested a meeting with a Manager at their offices because it appears that I've been paying Insurance for the last 11-years on a Property that doesn't exist because their description is definitely not the Property that was approved by their Representative for our Bond and Insurance.

This morning I received an amended Policy with exactly the same Construction of Our Home as was received before the enquiry.

Ones again I contacted their offices this morning, suffering through the Bull**** of their Answering Machines, and eventually got to a Person Molefe, requested a meeting with their Underwriting Manager. Molefe told me their Managers do not have phones and does not see the public.

Clearly it appears that I have no option but get my Attorney involved to solve the matter, so be aware of this Circus if you have any intention of Insuring anything with them
