Extremely Poor Claims Experience – Delays, Miscommunication & No Accountability

I recently had a very disappointing experience with Standard Bank Insurance following a motor vehicle accident on 14 February 2026 involving my Toyota Fortuner.

While the claim was eventually approved, the overall handling of the matter was inefficient, frustrating, and lacked accountability from both the insurer and their appointed repairer.

Key concerns:

* The claim took an unusually long time to be authorised, consuming a large portion of the 30-day courtesy vehicle benefit. * I received multiple updates from the approved repairer indicating that my vehicle had progressed through various stages (stripping, panel beating, paint prep), only to later discover that no actual work had been done. * Based on this incorrect information, I returned my courtesy vehicle and made personal arrangements, leaving me without transport. * Despite this, Standard Bank Insurance refused to extend or provide any alternative transport, strictly relying on policy terms without considering the circumstances. * The repair process took close to 3 months for what was a relatively minor accident. * Communication throughout the process was inconsistent, often generic, and lacked urgency. * Upon collection of my vehicle, the battery was completely flat due to the car being stationary for an extended period, and I now have to jump-start the car. This was also not resolved.

As a client, I acted in good faith, comp**** with all requirements, and remained patient throughout. However, the lack of coordination, misleading updates, and absence of practical support during a difficult time made this an extremely poor experience.

Insurance is meant to provide peace of mind when things go wrong, but unfortunately, this experience has been the opposite.

I will be reconsidering my relationship with Standard Bank Insurance going forward.
