Disappointing service from Standard Bank Home Insurance

Very disappointing service from Standard Bank Home Insurance. Our claim for structural wall damage was rejected on grounds that are completely unreasonable and unjustified. What makes this even more concerning is that the property was insured “as is”, without any prior assessment, yet this is now being used against us. We have submitted a formal dispute, yet none of the dispute emails have been acknowledged or responded to, and we are still awaiting an outcome. The initial rejection itself was absurd. Furthermore, Charmaine, who assisted us, did not advise us on how to formally challenge the rejection, despite this being the required first step before any legal action can be taken. The lack of guidance, communication, transparency, and accountability is unacceptable for an insurer of this size. We will be taking this matter to the media and make it as big as possible to warn future clients, and we strongly encourage potential clients to think carefully before choosing this insurer, as the claims process and after-service have been deeply disappointing.

Reviewer Update
After Adeena Golding, Social Media and Executive Complaint Specialist, responded to this review and stated that the claim review would take 8 days, I received a call from Standard Bank today. Unfortunately, the call served no purpose other than to once again read and repeat the original rejection letter.
The consultant was unable to provide any feedback on the status of the objection to the rejection, and could only say that the matter would be escalated again. This raises a serious concern — was this not already escalated as previously requested?
Given the ongoing lack of progress, clarity, and accountability, the next step will be to escalate this matter to our lawyer and take it to the media on a much larger scale. Perhaps then Standard Bank will understand the impact of losing both existing and future customers.
