Disappointed at bad customer service

Firstly, I am a retired Standard Bank staff member. I worked for Standard Bank for almost 18 years. I have been with Standard Bank Insurance for approximately 15 or so years. I was paying an extra monthly fee to cover the excess and then when I retired, that fell away as I was considered a pensioner and therefore there was no longer an excess payable. During the period I was on Standard Bank Insurance, I have had claims but not frequently. 2024 however, was a bad year for me in terms of claims on my vehicle. I had 4 claims during the course of the year, none of which were my fault. I had a cracked windscreen which needed to be repaired and then 3 body claims on my vehicle..... 2 of which was clearly trolley damage in a public parking space and the other was when my sisters dog chewed my front bumper. I decided that since I was paying monthly insurance (not cheap by the way), I might as well claim to have the vehicle repaired. Because of the number of claims I had during 2024, the excess was reinitiated onto the policy and I was told this would be in force for a year which then took me to September 2025. I never heard from the insurance to say that this had been lifted so I decided to call SBIB on Monday 13 October 2025 to enquire about that and also to discuss my insurance premium because as a pensioner, its just too high for me. I was told by the telephone consultant that this would be referred to the underwriters and she would get back to me with the decision. She called me on Tuesday 14 October 2025 to advise that the underwriters had made the decision that this excess would be in force for another 2 years due to my excessively high number of claims in the last 3 years...... they didn't consider how long I've had the policy with them, the fact that I'm a pensioner and a retired Standard Bank staff member, that didn't seem to matter at all and also I was told that my premium could not be reviewed at this point in time, again because of the high number of claims in the last 3 years. My frustration comes in now at this point because they have been more than happy to take my premiums over the last 15+ years and now they have reneged on their word and have extended the excess payable for another 3 years! I am disappointed that this is how customers are treated and especially a retired, ex Bank employee and I will therefore be shopping around to move my insurance elsewhere to a company where my premiums will be much more affordable so that I can put the difference away to cover an excess for future claims!!
