Claim confusion
Due to the strong winds we experienced in Cape Town the last few months specifically May and June a part of my wall collapsed, I phoned for assistance and an assessor came out to view the damage. The claim was submitted as per storm claim which the assessor said was valid as it was due to the storm. I waited over a month for the claim to pay out to fix my wall but before that happened another storm took down another piece of the wall leaving it open for all. We had to submit another claim. Another assessor came out, submitted another storm claim and to my surprise it was declined due to wear and tear. How is it that the first claim for the same wall was approved and then the other claim declined for wear and tear. The photos taken showed that the steel inside the wall was rusted and there were holes in the wall therefore the decline. Any long standing wall would have the same problem. The experience of being exposed to the dangers of happenings we as a family endured at home while waiting for assistance from the bank to fix the wall was hell. We live on a main road and anyone could just walk in. Things were ****** out of the yard and our house was almost broken in to. This has been a great loss for us mentally and financially. The service from the bank has been very disappointing and it has definitely made me rethink my insurance. We can't predict the future but I would not want to have to struggle like this again and what are the chances that next time will be better.
