Cancelled Credit Card and Insurance was never cancelled, contacted by debt collectors

I cancelled my credit card in December with the following instructions, cancel the card and any related charges associotated to the card. I was asked to settle my bill and the card and account would be cancelled. I went through the whole process which took me a long time to finalise but I made sure that nothing was outstanding and I would no longer be charged any amount. Today I recieved an sms from an attorney stating that I would need to pay an amount or legal action would be taken. So I tried a couple times to contact Standard Bank, this problem seems to be encoutered often as they knew exactly who to put me through to in a minute or so. I am assuming a lot more people get caught out by there lack of transparency. Eventually I found I was still paying for an insurance policy tied to my credit card, which is no longer active with an account that has been closed. I never recieved one invoice for this insurance policy, and I am pretty sure I tried to cancel previously but the process was not clearly layed out to follow. How this is legal is beyond me but needless to say when I cancelled my credit card all those months ago no one ever said I had to cancel any insurance. I would have to say this is a combination of negliegence and misrepresentation and I am not sure I will be keeping my account with standard bank.
