Building insurance is a ****
I am not sure if this applies to all building insurance companies. I had an incident with a leaking pipe. I called Standard Bank Insurance limited. On a property I had for over 24 years. I was advised that there is a basic access of R1250 with the callout and that the cover for pipe bursts only covers clean water. Since they were going to look at the issue after the weekend. I called an independent contractor who fixed the issue in 20 minutes and charged me 1Hr about R650. Parts were included as they would have been less than R100. Fast-forward, I decided to look into the policy wording emailed to me. Then I realised a few concerning clauses. The first issue On my personal policy schedule. pages, 10, 15, 24 There is a declaration statement " SBIB Confirms that they following was discussed with the client during the call" I have not spoken to SBIB since 2020. pure lies. Second concern, in the general terms and condition page 13. " There is no cover for sewerage and waste pipes". There are more concerning clauses that I am not sure customers are aware of. but these were relevant to my current claim. Which I obviously cancelled and fixed at a 1/2 the access fee. Looking at the general terms and conditions. It seems there is less covered and more exclusions.
