Bricks fall through the ceiling boards
I recently had a claim rejected by Standard Bank when a brick wall crashed through a bedroom ceiling. Obviously as a female purchaser I would be in no way qualified to know what's above a ceiling board. They call it bad design. I would have expected the banks building inspectors to do this if if was expected practice. Apparently the previous owners or previous previously owners built an extension knocking out ceiling height bricks but left concealed bricks behind without installing a lintel!!! The bedroom is still blocked off after I got an electrician on to isolate the dangerous area. The policy states an emergency R2000 for me to use at my discretion but now standard bank reject that as well. This happened about 14 days ago. Tell me was I supposed to climb into the ceiling before I bought the house.
