Beware: No cover for taps left on during municipal water outages
Beware of no cover for taps left on during municipal water outages (and probably numerous other exclusions for any other tap issues)
Bryte Insurance does cover for this exact occurrence since it is obviously not neglect and in South Africa, with Eskom and water issues, something that can occur and something that one would assume insurance would be there to cover us for! Much to my shock and huge disappointment, Standard Bank Insurance will absolutely NOT cover for this. I spent hours on the phone yesterday escalating to all levels of management to explain the obvious scenario that can occur as a result of this situation, for a very small claim to a few water damaged kitchen cupboards, and they were not remotely interested in budging and allowing the claim to be paid. It was a hard no, not interested.
All our other properties are insured with Bryte Insurance and have been for 20 years. The only reason we went with Standard Bank for this property, was the apparent convenience since our bond is with them. My very first claim is this one and here I found a glaringly unacceptable omission. Bryte paid out for this exact scenario about 15 years back and would have paid out for this scenario today.
Come on Standard Bank and any other other insurance companies cutting us off at the knees on this type of cover! How can you leave out cover for this! Everyone I know is absolutely disgusted and shocked; they will all be checking their cover moving to more reasonable and fair insurance companies such as Bryte!
Our claims with Bryte are trouble free, I never get a "no" from them, and we are paid out for every scenario imaginable. I deal with a broker and a wonderful claims consultant and I could not be happier.
Standard Bank, you saved yourselves a few pennies with me over this small and very reasonable claim, but have lost the opportunity to ever insure anything with me or anyone I know again. I hope that you and your team that decided to leave this vital cover off and not show the slightest interest in assisting in this particular case are happy with yourselves. Of course, at every opportunity I get, I will share this information with other unsuspecting clients or potential clients.
Fed-up and shocked. Gloria
