Bad service from Standard Bank Insurance

I moved into my home about 10 years ago. My bond and insurance was with Standard Bank. I eventually paid off my bond but have always kept my insurance with Standard bank. In the 10 years staying at this house, I have never ever had any problems with the maintenance and upkeep of my property, and therefore had no reasons to claim for anything. During the Easter weekend, Alberton experienced a terrible, terrible storm. My carport fell in, the ceilings in my rooms are all damaged and lying on the floor. The house at the moment is in a bad condition. No one can live in that house as it is dirty, damaged, water and mud all over and not liveable at all. Five houses in our street was damaged and is now being repaired except my house as Standard Bank Insurance declined my claim due to "lack of maintenance". I have lived in that house for 10 years and have had no problems or issues with the house. Every time I called to check on the progress of my claim, the consultant would tell me that they are awaiting a report. This has been going on for the past two weeks. Eventually, I got through again and was told that my claim is rejected, when asked why the consultant says "maintenance". Is it not amazing how month after month your debit order goes off and the bank is the first to take "their money" but when it is their turn to honour an agreement, they fail you dismally. Is it not amazing how, when they want your business, they make all these wonderful promises but yet fail you when you put in a claim for the 1st time in 10 years! When I paid off my bond, I was advised that I had to keep a small sum in the account as it needed to be kept open. I then was advised that I could pay off the entire amount but can keep the account open by paying the insurance with the bank. If I knew then that I was going to experience this unprofessionalism and receive such bad service, I would have taken my business elsewhere. I have now decided that I’m going to close my accounts with Standard Bank and take my account elsewhere and pray that the service I receive there will be better. We are not treated as valued customers / clients anymore, we are just another number at the bank, another commission for someone. They promise to look after you and your account, but when you need the “looking after”, it’s not honoured
