I have been a loyal customer to standard bank for 15+ years and I keep all my products and services with Standard Bank since they served me well for several years but what a horrible mistake to select them for insurance. NEVER EVER use standard bank insurance. They will happily take your money but never honor a claim. They will blame it on wear and tear/maintenence. I have spoken to many people and they all say that the same. With the unprecedented hail storm on 30 November, my roof was damaged and water flooded one part of the house. Moreover, the weather has been unpredictable with constant rain so there was great urgency to have it fixed. I followed up with standard bank several times and when I received an outcome, it was to inform me that I was rejected. I logged a complaint and the complaints department said that it takes 8 days. I expressed the urgency and I didn't even get a response. I called and called several times and I was finally able to get the email address of the person that was handling my claim. I sent her an email to her a direct email. The response that I got was , 'we will respond within the timelines'. They was no empathy or compassion for the fact that it has been raining directly into my house or the fact that my ceiling was on the verge of collapse and poses a risk to my safety. They final response to my complaint was that it was wear and tear. All of the pictures, videos and information that I shared on email was completely ignored. We have never had an issues with leaks during heavy rain and hail but that storm cause catastrophic damage to cars, carport and even tore down trees but seemingly, it could not have possibly caused damage to my roof. It was a simple wear and tear issue according to them. How absurd! I have my bond with standard bank and they were making a fortune on my home loan but they can't even honor a claim of 37k. I have no faith in them any longer and will be moving my whole portfolio away from them including my bond.

To anyone who thinks that they will provide good service because they are well known - please beware and don't give these ******* your business.

@standardbank insurance - don't take people's money if you not going to offer an actual service because that is just plain *****ing. You make money when things are good and when people don't claim but when they want to claim, you can't be bothered, you decline their claims and take forever to respond on even urgent claims. Insurance Companies also take insurance so they are also covered for claims so as I have said before, they are just ******* who will never honor claims.Unprofessional, inconsiderate *******.
