appalling service by SIL
I have been a client for around 22 years and until February this year I have had very few claims against my property insurance ( I believe that it is no claims, but am not 100% sure) this year has been a bit of challenge, during the flooding in KZN earlier this year I lost an awning, and claiming for this was a nightmare. No feedback or progress provided to me, I had to call every step of the way. Once a contractor was appointed, I still had to contact them to get the work booked and then finalised. With my current claim rinse and repeat there is zero communication from Standard bank Insurance, and even less empathy with what has happened and the impact thereof. I have since registering the claim, had to follow almost daily, call providers, setup appointments and make myself available to the service providers. And even after all of that 2 weeks after the claim was logged (PS this was a tree that had fallen crushing a car, an awning and damaging the house) I have still had to call and make a noise t get any movement on the claim. SIL have decided to pay me out value, the kicker, as I am not a builder how would I know if is equitable? no scope of work, no quotations that they have based this on nothing. So am I now expected to get further quotes to do the work and decide if the value is equitable, because once I have signed I have no further recourse?
