After paying Standard Bank Insurance for 11 years they are now telling me we are wrongly insured!!!!
Standard Bank Insurance – Weeks Without Feedback on Urgent Septic Tank Claim I am extremely disappointed with the lack of service and feedback from Standard Bank regarding my insurance claim HLB/2025/453673. A tree fell during a storm and landed directly on my septic tank, causing it to burst. This has created a serious health risk for my household. Because the tank is damaged, I am forced to have it emptied every week at a cost of R1700 per week just to prevent sewage overflow around my home where children are present. Despite the urgency of this situation, weeks have passed with little to no feedback from Standard Bank or their complaints department. The new issue being raised now is that the property might be considered commercial because there is a workshop on the premises. This makes absolutely no sense to me because: I purchased the property through Standard Bank. The workshop was already on the property when I bought it. I have been insured with Standard Bank for years. This has never been raised as a problem before with any of my previous claims. If there is suddenly a problem with the property's classification, then this would clearly be an administrative issue on Standard Bank's side and not something that should delay or reject my claim years later. To prevent further damage, we have already removed the fallen tree and repaired the corrugated roof and fence ourselves, which was also confirmed by the attending assessor. However, the main issue – the damaged septic tank – remains unresolved, while I continue to incur weekly costs and deal with a sanitation risk on my property. What is most frustrating is the complete lack of communication and urgency from Standard Bank, especially considering the health risks involved. All I am asking for is: Proper feedback on my claim A fair resolution Urgent attention to the septic tank damage If this matter cannot be resolved urgently, I will have no choice but to escalate it further to the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance.
