Absolutely Shocking Service from Standard Bank Insurance

I am absolutely appalled by Standard Banks' response to my call for assistance.

I have been a client of Standard Bank and SBIB for almost 20 years. On Monday evening, we had a severe storm and freak winds in Cape Town. It took off and damaged part of my roof which left it rooms exposed to the elements and further rain.

I submitted the claim on Tuesday morning, 30th Oct requesting assistance to have temporary cover over roof due to continual rains on Tuesday. They sent a builder around which arrived late for the appointment. He took a few pictures and said that he will submit report to Standard Bank. He also promised to contact me later that day regarding temporary arrangements. I never heard from him nor Standard Bank. I called to follow up on Wednesday late morning to learn that the claim has been rejected. Reason given was that the damage caused was due to bad workmanship of the roof. They said ridges and tiles were not fixed correctly. The remaining tiles and rigdes were loose and broken due to storm.

The consultant said that I can send an email to the complaints department but have to follow the procedure inidcated in the rejection letter. I am still waiting for the letter which was promised on Wednesday morning. My roof is still open for another night and my children have no other place to sleep.

This kind of service is just unacceptable.
