Alice Lane security attitude - STINKS!!!!!!

When I was leaving the gym yesterday, I validated the parking ticket, like I do every time and proceeded to the exit. When I inserted the card in the machine at the boom, I was informed that the ticket was invalid. This has happened in the past and one of the guards opens for me, like I’m sure happens for many other people.

However, not yesterday. Upon attracting a guards attention, who I learned goes by the name of Vusi, he informed that I could not go out, had to go back up to the gym and have the card stamped if it was not validated by Virgin Active’s machine in reception.

Now, firstly, how am I supposed to know that the card is not validated, and secondly, when I asked what was going to happen once the ticket had been stamped, I was told I could exit the building. So, I asked him why he couldn’t he open the boom for me then? No, once the ticket was stamped I could get out I was told. This didn’t, and still doesn’t make sense to me.

In any event, I reversed, Vusi managed to open the first boom, parked my car and returned to the gym to have my card stamped. Only then was I told that somebody would have to come downstairs with me to open the boom, which somebody had to do and all the while Vusi stood there and watched what was happening.

This is ridiculous. For the fees I’m paying for membership at the gym, parking should a – not be a problem and b – if the system doesn’t work effectively, then that is not the members fault and neither do they need to be inconvenienced because some arrogant security guard has a chip on his shoulder. I was actually late for a meeting as a result of this incident which I don’t appreciate.

I was not rude to him and asked him to please let me out when I’d explained the situation to him, which he refused to do. So, please revert back to me with an explanation as to how a ticket stamped with ink is going to open the boom? And, quite frankly, someone like that should not be working in that environment, in all the time since that building has been open, I’ve never had an incident such as this with any of the security guards. In any event, reception at Virgin Active pointed out that the parking ticket didn’t even have a date and time stamp on it, so it was actually the buildings entrance machine that was at fault, but if Vusi, had actually taken the time to think out of the box, he might have realised that and solved the problem.
