Spam for recruitement

I app**** for a couple of available vacancies on a variety of sites. About a day later I kept on receiving emails from different places to say that I must fax a variety of things to them (take note that there was no other means of communicating with them. No contact numbers, no email addresses, no company validating information) for my application such as my CV, ID, a recent photo, a cover letter and my supporting documents which includes references and certificates. At first it didn't make sense to me, so I started googling the names of the companies. Each time it comes to a post that mentioned spam mail for vacancies that is there for identity theft... I immediately deleted the emails, but the weird thing is that it came directly to my inbox, and not my spam folder.
