Arrogance and Lack of Transparancy

My order, placed last Tuesday, which I was told would arrive last Friday, didn't arrive. This afternoon I received an email informing me there was some sort of backlog in their warehouse. I emailed back asking when I'd receive my order and received no reply. I called their customer 'service' number and was told they couldn't guarantee when the order would arrive. I asked for a manager and was put on hold. Eventually I hung up. Surprisingly I got a call back from 'Jeffrey'. I asked what his position was, but couldn't hear properly what he said. He told me that I wouldn't be receiving my order this week as there had been some sort of 'tragedy' in their Joburg warehouse the day after my order was placed, and although they're working around the clock, they cannot get their orders out on time. Looking at complaints on both their Facebook page and Hello Peter, I see there are complaints about non-delivery dating back weeks - not just from last week, as Jeffrey claims. I asked him why they were still taking orders if they had such a serious issue, and why they weren't being open about what is clearly a serious problem in their warehouse. He told me that this is the directive from management. I told him that if one looks at the many complaints on social media, all one sees are dissatisfied customers and an impression that these customers are not being dealt with in a satisfactory manner. Yet, he had the audacity to insist that the situation was indeed being dealt with. When I told him that I would most certainly never shop with Spree again, and would spread the word informing others to avoid the site at all costs, he then had the cheek to ask if, in the past, the service I'd received from Spree had been good. I hardly find that past service is relevant when dealing with a highly dissatisfied customer in the present. I work in social media and the manner in which Spree's obvious issues are being dealt with are very far from putting out the fires that their lack of service delivery is creating. Yet another blatant demonstration of how SA business gets things so very, very wrong.

If you actually took the time to follow up properly, you'd see that I actually cancelled my order when I spoke to Jeffrey. He even offered me the cancellation and refund when he informed me that my order would definitely not be arriving by the time I needed it. He claimed that he processed the refund immediately - while I was speaking to him, on Tuesday 6 June. It's now Friday 9 June, but it's not reflecting in my account yet, and I'm wondering how long it's going to take.
I don't believe a word of your claims about a 'surge in orders'. I believe that your company is currently experiencing severe difficulty and staff issues. Why you refuse to come clean and reveal the truth to your customers is just beyond me. You would rather continue to annoy them and create increasingly negative attitudes towards your brand, and I don't understand why you would make that choice. But ultimately that choice is yours, and you will have to suffer the consequences.
