You get what you pay for or do you?

That big move planned, costs at high levels, getting quotes for the most affordable service providers being part load offers the cost was a lot lower than a full load provider, one thing me and my wife would come to learn soon, if they charge more its for a reason.

After so many quotes, we were contemplating the two chosen movers we thought to be the most cost effective and decided on Spot on movers as the other company had no reviews as such or a reputation to trust, well we soon got Spot on movers booked. After submitting a list of items to be moved to the owner by the name of Grant he then required the 50% deposit of the quote supp**** paid to secure our booking as they had other peoples goods to collect and got things arranged such as the truck to collect on the 28th September as we were moving the 29th by driving down to East London. We had then later discovered we would need more space as we didnt account for some belonings and requested the all clear from Grant whom approved and requested we send him the updated list for his driver which we then had done prior to their arrival in a few days time.

On the expected day we had reminded Grant and Kim the courier lady of the 3rd party we would soon learn wasn't actually part of Spot on movers Grant had arranged the collection with that we had a meeting and plans from about 18:00 so we needed them to be there quite early, we were assured they would be there in the afternoon and that it would all be packed before 18:00, 13:00 still no sign of the moving truck...we call in and speak to Grant/Kim each offering feedback once spoken the the driver, nothing happens for an hour so we call back & eventually on the the third call, they say no the truck is in morningside collecting a load then they will get to us by 16:00...forgetting our 18:00 arrangements that would soon be cancelled due to ignorance. The truck with a yellow double trailer under the name miles movers (Something like that )etc. not a spot on compnay name arrives at the appointed time, us not wanting to waste time allow the very nice smelling workers in who alone are flared up and give an attitude towards us for no reason to which others ask me to plug their phones in to be charged instead of focussing on being professional or that we are the customer etc.

The main driver comes with a list asking what needs to be packed, I assumed the answer was obvious....all our stuff, however per the sticker labels I then sort of got why I was asked this but thought the list was a great reference to follow, so we numerously answered the same question and sometimes repeated our answer on the same item or box, he even ran out of stickers constantly and disappeared for long periods of times and didnt even label some of the stuff. Finally got closer to the end of the interior moving the last items out, once outside we would soon realise Grant did not perform his role and neglected to give the driver the updated list and thus we were stuck with the old one having the driver pick and prod at what he would allow or couldnt, plants were counted indvidually and listed even though we supp**** two crates to house them thus saving space and only then counting them as crates not individual plants but still he insisted. The movers then accounted for what was on the list and left but assured us that we were their last collection and would be their first delivery and could expect them by Saturday the 1st October, we were like awesome as that would give us a day or two to organise space here and settle in before they arrive , they however didn't even bother to ensure they collected everything correctly and ended up leaving items behind we had to sell as a bundle for R 100 even though they were worth over 1000 but instead of dumping due to not being able to take them, we sold it to people in our complex.

Got hold of Grant and then explained what happened of which naturally no compensation would be offered other than the remaining items we couldn't sell be delivered free next time they come passed the East London area, to when that is, we do not know as he is either very busy that he has to call you back which he never does or send him an email that to date has never been responded to.

We arrived in East London on the 29th September , did our thing awaiting the 1st October to arrive, gets to around midday on that day and we decide lets give them a buzz and just see where they are so we can plan ahead. Neither Grant or Kim (who we found out later was from Peter's Mini Removals) assuming the operator who deals with the drivers for Spot on movers couldn't give us an answer, Grant needed an email first, or to call us back and or to speak to Kim, Kim needed to call us back to oddly enough. If you in a logisitics company, you should have a tracking system in place on your fleet, clearly they didn't.

We called in numerously for the remainder of the day to get answers fearing we had been duped and they had ****** our goods, Grant clearly never went on a course for customer care or even knows what customer service is as he talks over you and gets aggressive as well as ends the call when you as the customer are the one who should be allowed to inquire respectively and complete your sentence before brush off oR send me an email/ call you back gets splashed in, he seemingly only seals the deal and rakes in your hard earned money forgetting his place. Eventually we get told they will be arriving on wednesday the 5th October and were misled, peeved, we accepted the level of service and just awaited our goods as there was nothing we could do. On the day the expected arrival we had to call all through the day again to finally get a time of arrival as neither Grant or Kim could respond or get back to us like a professional. The truck would arrive by 17:00 or 18:00, not really leaving us much time to see in the light.

A blue single trailer vehicle arrives to our surprise as that's not the vehicle we loaded our stuff in, with items all on top of one another and packed to the point that there was no room for a man to stand in there, they then begin off loading our goods as well as repeatedly trying to off load other peoples goods to take in even though we have stickers like those people so clearly reading names was an issue as well as following the list. The horror came when we noticed how damaged everthing was, fragile boxes squashed causing damage to goods within as if the label alone didn't spell it out, fridge, microwave, washing machine and oil heater dented / bent badly, plants damaged and soil almost gone out of their pots, furniture chipped and cracked as they even used our chest of drawers to stand on while they were trying to reach for the stuff that was packed higher up in the truck. You do expect the odd item to get damaged but not everything plus we were assured that they take the utmost care of everything on the truck to avoid damages.

We inquired about the damaged goods and why the trucks were changed without disclosing this to us. Apparently we had to ensure we were covered for insurance from Grant as Kim was the courier, a seperate entity hired out to cover the move and that they offer insurance but it wouldnt have covered us for dents, scratches or things alike that this was how it was, so you pay good money, trust your well maintained, basically new items without damage to these service operators whom crush it all under other peoples goods to cram it in a smaller less expensive vehicle to get it down here negelecting the cost of the items and the condition they are maintained in offering only cheap punch of the insurance joke and that oh well tough cookie is app****, we even refused to pay the balance until a thourough inspection was done of our goods but their response was " If you dont pay the balance, we will tell our drivers to skip you and go to their next delivery which is in capetown, then charge you an addtional delivery fee, this after damaging our goods, lying about your company and how you operate with vehicles and third parties.

We then discovered that some of our goods like couch pillows and still under debate x2 black bags of linen were left on the truck as we have an L shaped seater thats missing 4 couch pillows and the bags in question weren't counted correctly due to the dark and not being able to see as well as monitoring the workers in the house who weren't supervised beyond the truck. Thankfully we expecting those items being that of the couch pillows only by this weekend coming but we are still awaiting a response from Grant regarding numerous queries to which he is still ignoring us.

Final thoughts, if a place is to good to be true then it is. Customer service, professionalism, quality of work from collection to delivery are only as good as the money you pay. We unfortunately dealt with illeterate and irrisponsible people and paid the price, please don't fall into the same trap as we did if you value your hard earned goods and valuables.

We will never recommend Spot On Movers or Peter's Mini Removals to anyone ever!
