Refusal to refund deposit

I was preparing to relocate from Queenstown to Johannesburg and as part of the preparations I sought the services of a furniture removal company to assist in transporting my furniture. In this regard I found Spot On Movers who gave me a quote of R7459.00. After agreeing to the quotation I contacted the company on the listed number, ********** and got through to Grant Jacobs. Grant insisted that I pay a deposit in order for him to finalise the dates and times of loading from Queenstown, he insisted that I do this quickly as the truck was getting full quickly. Under pressure I paid R4000.00 in deposit on the 21 April 2017. After receiving proof of payment of deposit, Grant promised to email me on the 22 April 2017 final details on the date and time of the pick up.

After several attempts without success at reaching Grant on the cellphone to finalise pick up dates and times, he finally responded on the 29th April 2017 and confirmed that the truck would load on the 30th April 2017;

On the 30th April at 11:55 AM, worried of no communication on the status, I called and Grant indicated that the truck was in Port Elizabeth and that it would reach Queenstown by 17:00 PM latest;

Upon non-arival of the truck, I called Grant again at approximately 18:15 to suggest that the truck had not arrived, however, the phone went un answered inspite of several attempts made

An attempt to reach Grant was made from a different number and a lady claiming to be Grant's assistant responded suggesting that Grant was to call all clients as the truck had a breakdown. She refused to give us an alternative number to reach Grant but insisted that he would call within 5 minutes

An attempt was made to reach Grant again after the five minutes had lapsed but phone was off. A few hours later an attempt was made again to call Grant, it was picked up but no one spoke on the other end but only sounds of people in a public place could be heard.

Given this state of affairs an alternative way of transporting the furniture had to be made as I had to vacate the premises by the 30 April 2017 and be ready for work in Johannesburg on the 1st May 2017. This predicament was highted in an sms sent to Grant at approximately 18:27 on the evening of the 30th April 2017.

Having entered into additional transportation costs, I sent an email at around 10:00 PM advising them that since they did not arrive I made alternative arrangements and that I need the full refund of the deposit paid back in full.

Grant continues not to pick my calls and am still having challenges receiving my refund.
