Utterly disgusted in Sportsman Warehouse

My reason for sending through this complaint is because I have been utterly embarrassed today (21/05/2018) in Sportsman’s Warehouse, Canal Wall. And have been racially profiled by a staff member.

We are residence in Century City and regularly visit the store as we are sportsmen ourselves. Today upon our arrival in the store a woman wearing a khaki trousers walked passed us and when I turned around to look at her she signalled the security and told him to watch us. I looked her directly in her face as this had happened and she just walked off quickly. Immediately it made us feel quite uncomfortable and made our shopping experience unpleasant.

My wife decided to sit down and I walked to the back of the store and the security followed me to the back. I then approached him and asked him if he’s following me. He asked me “What do you mean?” And I asked him again if he’s following me and just walked out. On my way out I told one of the assistance that this is totally unfair that we the ones being judged and followed here but the store is full of people.

My wife and I felt totally embarrassed and humiliated and I could not allow my wife to be put through that and I went back to the store and asked for the manager.

He came after 5 minutes of calling him, introduced himself as Justin Pullen. I explained to him what just happened and asked him why were we marked as suspects. Is it because the way we are dressed or the color of our skin. He could not answer me why this has happened and I asked him where the lady is and he didn’t know where she was. I then informed him that this matter better be addressed because I’m going to escalate this matter as he can not tell me why we were marked as suspects in the store.

My wife and I are almost everyday in the mall and never have we had an experience like this. I hope this matter could be addressed and the person gives us a formal apology as we do enjoy shopping there and don’t ever want to endure something where we don’t get treated with the dignity and respect we deserve.
