Poor service and/or lack of knowledge

I recently took up cycling as a hobby and bought most of my equipment at Sportsmans Warehouse. I visited the Glen branch this past Sunday and purchased, cycling shoes, cleats and pedals, went home installed them and tested it out. I now find out that the cleats and pedals are not for a road bike but a mountain bike. So now I am stuck with pedals and cleats for the wrong bike. Why was this not brought to my attention or why was I not asked this by the assistant? I have spoken to the Branch Manager today and he informed me that I should bring the pedals and cleats in so that they can review the condition which is ok with me as I did not do a cycling run yet however this is an inconvenience but also it is not a guarantee as yet that they will exchange it. Why was I not informed and assisted correctly. Disappointed that I have spend so much of money and receive this type of service.
