False Advertising & Bad Customer Service

On April 30th 2017, I was at Sportscene Blueroute Mall looking for a pair of sneakers.

I made the decision to purchase a pair of "Adidas Originals Superstarts".

My decision was partly based on the fact that there was signage up in store stipulating the above mentioned sneakers were on sale for R799.00 until the 11th of May.

I asked the assistant manager for a particular size and was thus told that the sale price of R799.00 didn't apply to ladies sneakers.

I indicated that nowhere on the advertising did it stipulate or differentiate between mens or ladies sneakers. It only state the name of the range of sneakers.

This as far as I am concerned would be false advertising as no size or *** was specified on the advertising signage.

When I addressed this with the sales assistant, he was very defensive and unprofessional. No conflict resolution s****s whatsoever. I was just told, that's how it is, and we can't change it.

I asked who the store manager was, and was told the person was not working today.

The assistant store manager who I spoke to earlier, also did not address the issue at all.

The staff in this store, particularly on this shift, were very unprofessional.

I shall also be escalating my complaint regarding the false advertising to the CPA and Advertising Ombudsman.

Well since writing this review about a week ago, I have yet to receive further communication from Sportscene.

They have emailed me once only asking about my shopping experience, and after replying to the email, I have received no further communication.

If this is the way Sportscene handles customer complaints then I think more people need to know about this, to save them the trouble of getting upset due to Sportscenes false advertising, unprofessional staff, and utter disregard for their customers rights.

Firstly I would just like to give a big thanks to the Sportscene Area Manager, Nick (sorry if I got the name wrong) who addressed and assisted in resolving the issue I had experienced at the Blueroute branch.

I would like to give the Area Manager a 5 start rating, but I'll keep my general review at 2 stars, for the mere fact that my query had to be escalated so far up before I received assistance.

The assistant manager Tanya was also helpful when I returned to the store for resolution of this issue.

Moving forward I hope that the staff of this particular store will receive some kind of training for handling these tyoes situations professionally and without attitude towards the customer. Also that Sportscene relook at the way they draw up their advertising.

Thank you to the Area Manager, Nick (again sorry of I've gotten it wrong) and to Tanya for the assistance.

Kind regards
