Splendid Living Property - Day Light ******s

A unit was advertised for rental by Splendid Living Properties online. I made arrangements with Laura de Bastos for my brother to view the unit on my behalf as l was resident in Capetown during the month of February and so l could not physically view the place at that time. My brother was satisfied with the size of the unit and advised me to proceed with renting the unit. I then made payment arrangements with Laura prior to occupation of R15500. I arrived at the unit on the evening of the 2nd of March 2017. The size of the unit was satisfactory but to my dismay the unit was a health hazard. The 3 bedrooms were carpeted but were water damaged resulting in mould growing on and probably beneath the carpets. The window sills were damp, peeling and rusty. The walls in the one bedroom had cracks and showed cement. The unit was generally dirty and no effort to clean had been made prior to our occupation. I contacted Laura that very same evening and l advised her of my concerns as per my observations. Due to the state of the house and the amount of mould even on the main bedroom walls covered by wall paper, my family and I decided to spend the night in the lounge as my youngest son has severe allergies to mould and we all know breathing in mould is generally highly toxic to human beings. When Laura came the following morning to get the lease agreement signed as well as see and listen to my concerns, she too saw the mould and acknowledged not being aware of this particular health hazard. To my surprise she however stated that she would not refund the rent for March and the R1000 for the lease agreement as the owner had already utilised the funds and she would only refund us of pro-rata once she gets a tenant. My question is how can someone stay in a house with mould that is active? Why is the agent not acknowledging this and correcting hazard prior to renting out.

The unit is 18 Shingwedzi, Weltervreden Park, please do not rent this or do not do any business with Splendid Living Property they will take you for all you have for nothing..******!!
