My mother's dreadful experience at Spescare Blouberg

My elderly mother was sent to Spescare Blouberg in December 2021, as part of her physical recovery and rehabilitation process after her fractured ankle was operated on as a result of a bad fall. She was extremely weak when she arrived at Spescare Blouberg. She had been confined to bed for almost a month, due to a long stay at the hospital where she had her operation i.e. the operation was postponed for a week due to excessive swelling in her leg and when she was ready to move to Spescare Blouberg, she contracted COVID. Her stay at Spescare was nothing short of horrific. Firstly, a brand new pair of pajamas that my dad bought her was ****** the day after she arrived. When she asked about her physiotherapy sessions after a couple of days of being there, she was told she'd see a physiothe******. When the physiothe****** arrived, she was unable to work with my mom, as she had a leg injury and was on crutches. The worst was yet to come... my mom suffers from a chronic condition called 'Restless leg syndrome' and when she suddenly had an attack during the evening of 31 December 2021, she was verbally abused and ridiculed by some of the staff. Finally, she was drugged and remained drugged until she left Spescare Blouberg. Fedhealth medical aid were charged for several physiotherapy sessions, however, when she left Spescare Blouberg, she was so ill, my family and I thought she was about to die. My dad was told by the doctor at Spescare Blouberg, that my mom's state was due to her suffering from dementia! I called in a specialist physician to diagnose and treat my mom at home and we employed a full-time caregiver to care for her. The diagnosis was UTI (a urinary tract infection) and she had a build up of water on the lungs due to being left to lie on her back at Spescare Blouberg. The level of personal hygiene she received at Specscare Blouberg was nothing short of disgusting. When I phoned to speak to the hospital manager on 1 January 2022, I was told that she was on leave and I should to email her directly. I am still awaiting a reply to my email from Isabel Barkhuysen. It took several months of dedicated home care and treatment to return my mom to good health. I could write a book about her experience at Spescare Blouberg and the lengths we took, as a family, to get her back to good health.
