Hi there Portia My dad has been on this medical aid since 2007,last month the debit order that went off his account had increased by R1794 going from R4604.25 to R6398. As you can imagine my parents had the shock of their lives and were confused and worried. When I called in the next day I was told that the option they were on had some policies changed and members had to submit proof of income, numerous SMS's were sent to my dad and because no proof of income was shown the debit order amount had changed. This is shocking from Spectramed, what if my dad couldn't respond because he was in frail care, or ill in hospital or he is unable to actually read an sms. He was born in 1944, he is 72 years old, he is a pensioner and has no proof of income. More so if he didn't have proof of income he needed to then go to a police station and sign an affidavit to prove the he is a pensioner and has no income(you are once againg assuming that he is able to this) and EVEN IF HE DID FOR ARGUMENT SAKE WHAT BUSINESS IS THAT OF YOURS and what I cannot understand is what gives Spectramed the right to debit a members account with an additional sum of money that he has not agreed to and assume that he can afford and more so with such a large amount. This has put my parents in a serious financial state never mind the mental anguish of not understanding what was going on. I am taking to social media to make people aware of this serious matter and will not rest until that money is refunded and you agree to change your policy of pensioners needing to submit proof of income every year cause all that's going to happen is that my parents are going to get older every year and nothing will change next year he will still be a pensioner just a year older. To ask for a pensioner to remember to do this every year is preposterous and outrageous. And I am really furious that you can allow for this to happen to old people.
