Wedding Dress Cleaners
DO NOT GO! I handed my wedding dress in for minor cleaning of the skirt, which was a silk petticoat with 4 layers of soft tulle over. There was a mud mark on the inner silk petticoat that needed cleaning.
My dress is ruined! The Tulle outer layers of the skirt have shrunk and all curled up at the bottom. The Tulle material is thin and floppy. They clearly have NO idea on how to wash the various different types of material. DO NOT GO. What a disaster !!!!

On the front page of our invoice it clearly states " We are not responsible for shrinkage or slight discoloration of fabrics". For any cleaner, cleaning a dress for the first time is a lottery of results as fabrics come in all levels of quality and sometimes dressmakers make use of the most affordable fabrics available. For us the standard process is to start with the mildest chemicals and move up from there, no excessive heat is ever used. We have 21 years in the wedding industry, 17 years cleaning and hiring out dresses, the last 4 specializing in cleaning alone as we finally sold after a passionate young lady made us an unbeatable offer.
Mrs Wegner's dress was not quite your "off the rail" wedding dress, like the tried and tested brands we kept at our store, it was made of fabrics that had no proven quality track record. The delicate tulle fabric round the hem did not steam as flat as she had hoped so we offered to steam it again after which she accepted. The dress was in no way "ruined", by simply trimming the edges(approx 1.5cm) of the hem it would have given it a newer look.
For any bride reading this, I think the important lesson is to note is that once you start experimenting with very delicate fabrics and choose to save money by not buying/hiring a dress made of proven quality fabrics, you could be setting yourself up for dissapointment. If you have taken a chance buying your own fabrics maybe try cleaning it yourself first then handing it to a professional afterwards rather than blaming them because your lovely personal creation did'nt clean as well as you had hoped.
