Very high mark-up on frames

Be careful! I went to Spec-Savers Klerksdorp earlier this year for new prescription glasses. I received a free pair of prescription sunglasses as part of a promotion and the staff was reasonably pleasant. However, I researched some of the frames I wanted to get beforehand, and most were priced at around R 1000. This is acceptable, even if they jacked up the price by a couple hundred rand. I did NOT confirm the price in store as I assumed it would be around R 1000 to R 1200. It is now August and I was surprised to find that my medical aid has been exhausted. Turns out that the frames I got (which usually costs around R 1000 retail) was charged to my medical aid for R 2400. That is a massive mark-up, and it borders on being exploitative. Together with the consultation and lenses the entire exercise cost me just over R 4100. Just make sure to confirm what you will be paying.
