Terrible experience at the Pavillion branch

I deeply regret ever going to Spec-Savers at Pavilion and wish I could cancel my order and get my money back. I was interested in the WOZA package because I don’t have medical aid and needed an affordable option. However, from the moment I walked in, it was clear they had no real interest in selling me that package—instead, they pushed aggressively for an upsell, trying to get me to spend R6000. The special deal seems to be nothing more than bait to get people in the door.

The optometrist seemed more focused on selling upgrades than actually helping me, and worse, she wasn’t even sure about the costs involved. Everyone in the store seemed confused about pricing and struggled to give straight answers. It was obvious that their priority was making as much money off me as possible.

I specifically stated that I needed glasses for computer work, but they insisted I should get reading glasses instead. Eventually, I agreed—despite already owning a pair for reading. I even called twice to confirm I was going with their recommendation.

Two weeks later, I went to pick up my glasses, only to find that they had made them for long-distance viewing—something I never asked for. I struggle with near and mid-range vision, not distance! The two phone calls I made were completely ignored.

If you don’t have medical aid and aren’t willing to spend a fortune, don’t bother going here. The incompetence is shocking. They messed up my prescription entirely, and the whole experience felt like a **** designed to milk medical aid schemes dry.

I assumed that paying for a professional eye test would give me better results, but it didn’t. My cheap pharmacy glasses work just as well. In hindsight, I could have gone to the pharmacy, tested different strengths, and bought two pairs—one for reading, one for computer work—for a fraction of the cost. Instead, I wasted R900 on glasses I don’t need or want.

Save yourself the time, money, and frustration—go elsewhere!

Reviewer Update
So, I was never contacted by the Spec-Savers team regarding this review. However, I finally picked up my glasses today, and I’m happy with them in the end. I felt bad about leaving a negative review, as the woman who assisted me in the store today was very polite and accommodating. I’d prefer not to reflect poorly on the staff or their workplace. I believe I would have had a better experience if I had medical aid and cost hadn’t been an issue. Glasses are expensive, and I was looking for the most affordable option available, which was the overriding factor. All’s well that ends well. Thank you.
