Specsavers extremley unhelpful

I had an eye test and purchased prescription glasses at about R5500 from spec savers /- 18 months ago.
The other evening I noticed that the metal slide had come out of one of the hinges.
I work at a university and cannot take time off, so I asked my fiance to take them in so that the short metal rod can be reinserted into the hinge. I don`t want to attempt it myself because I don`t want to break anything.
Anyway the gentleman responded to my fiance by saying that the frame is broken and I need to purchase another and I should come in for an eye test as I would need new glasses. Can you believe that?
He then took normal masking tape and wrapped it around the arm.
There is nothing wrong with the frame, In my view the slide just needs to be slotted into the hinge. I have never abused the glasses and in my view the hinge must have been of inferior quality. I paid a lot of money and instead of effecting a simple repair I`m told that I would need new glasses anyway and must have and eye test I hope that I get a response to this post, if not I will never deal with spec savers again.
