Spec savers East gate - Undisclosed costs

Good Day

I went to Spec savers East gate on Friday the 8th of February, my dog got hold of my glasses and ate the left arm. When I got to Specsavers I was told they are running a Two for One special and I was delighted to hear about that. While I was waiting to be helped I was met by an optometrist, who ushered me in for an eye test and it seemed like that is the usual process.

The eye test was quick and from what I was told nothing has changed with regard to my eyesight.

I came out and excitedly started choosing frames. I chose an expensive brand and there was an excess amount which had to be paid in cash. I didn’t have the cash available with me so I said I will come back when I have the funds. They took the glasses I had chosen and reserved it for me .

A month later I get an invoice from Execuspecs Eastgate (Specsavers East gate) with a charge for R493.20 which I was fine with because I assumed that it was part of the Two for One special and I didn’t even question it.

On the 20th of March I came in to pay the excess fee on my glasses, I paid the access and I was told my glasses will be processed.

On the 27th of March I was invoiced for R3131.20 plus the eye test I was charged is R493.20 plus R700 access.

+R3131.00 +R493.20 +R700.00 =R4324.40

Now my issue in all of this is that I was not disclosed the charge for the eye test and my old glasses lenses were not damaged. My old glasses could have been measured (as they usually do anyway) and I could have been advised from there.

Execuspecs Eastgate must reverse the charge for the eye test as it was unnecessary and I was not informed of the charge for the eye test. If I had known, I would not have agreed to such an exorbitant and unnecessary cost.

Reviewer Update
After 3 months and multiple follow up emails, the eye test amount I disputed was eventually reversed.

I will no longer do any business with Specsavers due to this.
