Poor unprofessional service

I escorted a friend to Specsavers at South Coast Mall for a 3pm appointment on 30 Jan 2026. At the end of the consultation, she was prescribed medication and she decided to use it before obtaining glasses. I requested a prescription for glasses so she could obtain them at a later date. I noted that the prescription omitted the pupillary distance (PD). I requested it be entered on the script. The optometrist refused and stated that the PD must be measured at the premises where the client obtains the glasses. I asked if that means that my friend must attend in person to be measured wherever she goes for glasses. She said ‘yes’. She must attend in person. I consider that PD is part of a routine prescription such that a client can obtain glasses wherever she/he pleases, including any online supplier. The optometrist should supply a precise PD measurement. It is incorrect to state that PD has to be measured in-person at a supplier of glasses. On the Specsavers UK website, there is a section on how to measure PD oneself at home using a ruler. It is stated that ‘We’ll need this measurement [PD] if you’re buying your specs online.’ Also, there are free online tools to measure PD.
